Elevated food hall with chef-inspired classics

Standout Dishes: Single Double Burger; Pluck You Dawg; Not Tso Nice Wings; Buff Baby Wings; Kamp Classic

Omaha is no stranger to the concept of the food hall, but Kamp is something different. Instead of bringing together various independent vendors, Kamp employed a singular culinary team (headed by Kristina Lee, the flavor genius behind Nice Rollz) to create a one-of-a-kind food and drink experience.

The result is a hip joint that’s part bar, part junk food emporium, part late-night hangout. There’s an electric vibe in the space that emanates from the central bar and extends to the four vendor stalls (3 are open now, with a Nice Rollz location on the way).

But while this Blackstone hangout is certainly great for fun-loving night owls, it’s just as pleasurable on a weekday for lunch. Because for all the pomp and youthful energy this place has, the well-conceived food is worth a visit alone. Each vendor only offers a few items, but these have been meticulously curated and tested over months and months of research and development. Trust me, the effort was well worth it.

Here’s a breakdown of Kamp’s vendors:

  • Single Double
  • Nice Rollz
  • Angelwingz

SINGLE DOUBLE

Single Double SD Burger

Single Double offers several burgers, but all you need to know about this stand can be explained with one bite of the Double Burger. It’s delightfully sloppy and sinful and provides a perfect example of what this stall is capable of.

The beef itself is phenomenal, as each bite is highlighted with a juicy, savory punch. Single Double employs two smash patties, which doubles the grilling area and creates more caramelization and flavorful crispy bits on the beef. Each patty is enrobed with a blanket of gooey American cheese, and caramelized onions and pickles add sweetness and acidity, respectively.

But the kicker is the SD sauce, a tangy housemade concoction that takes McDonald’s Big Mac sauce’s lunch money. Creamy and studded with pickles, this sauce adds the finishing kick to make this one of Omaha’s best burgers.

SD Dawg

Not feeling a burger? Single Double also offers two hot dogs, the SD Dawg and Chili Dawg. Now before you go thinking that these are going to be of the quality you’d have at a high school sporting event, remember these were crafted by a talented chef who doesn’t cut corner—even on something as humble as a hot dog.

The SD Dawg features a firm, flavorful frank that’s thick like a brat. It has great snap and practically gushes juicy, beefy flavor when you bite it, and it’s served in a toasted, buttery bun.

It might look overdressed, but the flavors of the ketchup, mustard, and mayo actually balance perfectly and accentuate the beefy savory flavor of the dog.

Every great burger needs a strong fry companion, and Single Double’s spuds pass the test. These crispy potatoes have a wildly unique shape, as they have ridges running down the middle. They add crunch and texture, not to mention additional space for ketchup or the aforementioned SD sauce to take residence.

NICE ROLLZ

Nice Rollz multiple dishes

Be careful, because Nice Rollz will make you swear off your favorite Chinese takeout restaurant.

Nice Rollz Crab Rangoon Nachos

Nice Rollz Shrimp Fried Rice

This stall offers creative takes on Asian and Korean dishes, such as the Crab Rangoon Nachos. This dish elevates the common and often disappointing appetizer to the next level by using fried wontons as chips and topping them with a delectable, tangy cream cheese and tangy sweet and sour sauce.

You’ll also find classic takeout dishes here, but executed at a higher level. The Fried Rice is buttery and nutty, and the texture of the starch remains moist and tender without getting sticky. The egg rolls are among the best you’ll find in Omaha, the sweet/spicy Naughty Cukes are one of the most addicting snacks/side dishes around, and I challenge you to find a better version of General Tso’s chicken than Nice Rollz’ Not Tso Nice Chicken.

From traditional Chinese street food dishes like the sweet, nutty Black Sesame & Peanut Butter Noodz to improved versions of your favorite Chinese takeout classics, Nice Rollz brings something new to the table in an unexpected and pleasant way. And the Korean Corn Dog, a deep-fried combo of mozzarella and hot dog dusted with sugar and drizzled with honey, ketchup, mustard, and mayo, just might change your life.

ANGELWINGZ

AngelWingz Top View

Angelwingz claims its wings comes from chickens, but I’m skeptical. Either this chickens were hitting the gym twice a day, or these massive meat clubs came from a much larger bird; maybe a condor.

There’s so much meat on these wings that I’d guess the standard order of 10 weighs more than a pound. The wings are baked first, ensuring the meat remains tender and juicy, before being battered and fried. The batter is a bit thick and heavy, but it achieves a nice crispiness and creates a textured surface to allow more places for sauce to stick.

And the sauces are excellent. All scratch made, they each bring something very unique to the table:

  • Buff Baby: relatively basic, with the moderate heat level and buttery richness you expect from a buffalo sauce. There’s a peppery punch that doesn’t burn, but leaves a pleasant tingle on the lips.
  • Not Tso Nice: a wonderful sweet/heat combo that brings to mind Nice Rollz’ epic Spicy Bulgogi Burger (arguably the best burger in Omaha), but in wing form.
  • Not Yo Honey: somewhat similar to the Not Tso Nice, but the balance here leans more on the sweetness than the spice. A garlic drizzle adds an interesting (and delicious) curveball.
  • Taki Elote to Me: wildly creative, this is AngelWingz’ nod to the famous Mexican street food. These wings combine a strong garlic flavor with sweet pops of corn and the corn, lime flavors from a mound of crushed up Takis.

Whatever sauce you choose, you can assure it’ll be sticky, adhering to every nook and cranny of the crispy exterior. The batter, a combination of corn starch and rice flour, creates a textured playground for the sauce to get complete coverage.

You don’t need more fried food with this meal, but are you really going to pass up a side of crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside waffle fries with a salty, slightly spicing seasoning? I didn’t think so.

LOS ROLLIES

Los Rollies Munchwrap and Mexiza Meal

The bulk of Los Rollies’ menu revolves around taquitos, rolled tacos shells that are stuffed with your choice of protein and then fried to get a nice crispy shell. But what makes this place special is its innovation and offering of twists on fast food classics.

Los Rollies Mexiza
Mexiza

This stall offers chef’d up takes on beloved Taco Bell classics. Who among us doesn’t love the Crunchwrap Supreme, the hexagon-shaped folded tortilla that redefined portable fast food? Rather than stuff it with questionable meat, Los Rollies uses a savory, beautifully seasoned beef alongside cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. That’s all wrapped up with a tostada (which adds great crunch) and sour cream and queso (bringing fat and creaminess), then griddled to seal in all the glorious flavor.

And the Mexiza is a fun play on the Mexican pizza. Los Rollies fries two tortillas to achieve an puffy, chewy consistency, then slides ground beef, refried beans, and melted cheese between them. Crema and a vibrant red sauce top of these wacky but delightful dish.

Los Rollies Street Corn Cup

Be sure to grab a Street Corn Cup, which mimics elote but with a crunchy twist. The corn kernels pop with sweetness, and they’re roasted to give them a nice smoky flavor. They’re combined with mayo and cotija cheese, then topped with crushed hot Cheetos.

Los Rollies offers Mexican food, but not the basic tacos and quesadillas you’ll find at most restaurants. There’s a little bit of a twist here, and chances are you’ll find yourself swearing off the fast food versions of these dishes forever.

These wildly creative takes on everyday comfort foods make Kamp an experience like no other. If you want to have a great time on a Friday night, Kamp has you covered. But if you’re just looking for a great meal, this lineup of chef-driven burgers, hot dogs, and wings will all at once transport you to a middle school lunch room and a five-star restaurant.
